Bunker Hill, Battle of
сражение у Банкер-Хилла, первое крупное сражение Войны за независимость в июне 1775 вблизи Бостона. Англичане выбили американцев из их укрепления на Бридс-Хилл [Breed’s Hill], и те отошли к холму Банкер-Хилл [Bunker Hill] после того, как у них кончился порох, но до отхода американцы сумели нанести большие потери английским войскам. Сражение у Банкер-Хилла воодушевило колонистов, оно показало, что при необходимом снабжении американские войска могут наносить тяжёлые потери англичанам. Существует легенда, что американский офицер Уильям Прескотт [*Prescott, William] дал команду: «Не стрелять, пока не увидите белки их глаз!» [‘Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes’]
